Beautifully and intricately carved statue of Durga, the manifestation of strength, the Shakti. Durga is also considered as Parvati, the wife of Shiva, daughter of Himalaya and worshipped as the supreme Mother. She is seen as the destroyer of the evil and protector of the universe. This statue is carved out of the natural pink stone found in Odisha. The carving in a small and soft stone requires higher level of skill by the artisans. The temple sculpture craft is followed for generations by the artisans in and around Puri and Bhubaneswar.
